Introduction to the Rosary

B      Called by the Lady of Fatima, we now proceed to pray the Holy Rosary. Through the Rosary, we wish to deeply live our union with the Lord Jesus in the Holy Communion as an act of reparation, having a model for it in the Immaculate Mary. The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments indicated this practice in The Directory on Popular Piety and the Liturgy (No. 174), issued in 2001. The Congregation, speaking about the act of receiving the Holy Communion as an act of reparation on the First Saturdays, ruled: (0:45)

W      having correctly placed communion in the celebratory context of the Eucharist, this pious practice should be implemented as a propitious occasion to live intensely, with an attitude inspired by the Virgin Mary, the Paschal Mystery celebrated in the Eucharist. (0:21)

B      Fragments from the Holy Scripture and Diary of St. Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament will help our rosary way with Jesus and Mary. (0:09)

1. The Resurrection
of the Lord Jesus

Z      On the evening of that first day of the week, when the doors were locked, where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in their midst and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. The disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. (Jesus) said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” (John 20:19–23) (0:49)

Z      Thomas, called Didymus, one of the Twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples said to him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger into the nailmarks and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” Now a week later his disciples were again inside and Thomas was with them. Jesus came, although the doors were locked, and stood in their midst and said, “Peace be with you.” Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands, and bring your hand and put it into my side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe.” Thomas answered and said to him, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus said to him, “Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.” (John 20:24–29) (1:13)

D      Dear Jesus! St. Sister Faustina wrote in Diary (No. 1385) the words You spoke to her after Holy Communion: “Today after Holy Communion, Jesus told me how much He wants to come to human hearts, (0:09)

P      “I want to unite with human souls; it is my delight to unite with souls. Know this, My daughter, that whenever I come into a human heart in Holy Communion, My arms are full of all manner of graces, and I want to give them to the soul, but some souls do not even pay any attention to Me, they leave Me on My own and are busy with other things. Oh, how sad I am that souls have not recognized Love. They treat Me like an inanimate object.” (Faustina’s Diary, No. 1385) (0:43)

B      I answered Jesus, “O Treasure of my heart, the only object of my heart, delight of my soul, I want to worship You in my heart, just as You are worshipped on Your throne of eternal glory. My love wants to recompense You at least in part for the coldness of such a large number of souls. O Jesus, here is my heart, a dwelling for You and You alone, to which nothing else has access, You alone may rest in it as in a beautiful garden.” (0:40)

2. The Ascension
of the Lord Jesus

P      In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented himself alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for “the promise of the Father…” … When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. … Then they returned to Jerusalem from the mount called Olivet, which is near Jerusalem, a sabbath day’s journey away. When they entered the city they went to the upper room … (Acts 1:1–13) (1:07)

B      St. Sister Faustina recorded in her Diary: Today, as I was receiving Holy Communion, I noticed a live Host in the chalice, and the priest gave it to me. When I got back to my place, I asked the Lord why one of the hosts was alive. Was not He present and alive in all of them? The Lord replied, (0:20)

W      “Yes, that is right, I am the same in all of them, but not every soul receives me with such vigorous faith as you do, My daughter, so I am not able to work as much in their souls as I do in your soul.” (Faustina’s Diary, No. 1407) (0:18)

D      O Jesus, forgive me for my weak faith! Beloved Jesus, by the power of the mystery of the Ascension, may grant Your Church a living faith – such as that with which Your Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, used to receive You in Holy Communion; such as that with which Her spiritual daughter, St. Faustina, used to receive You. (0:27)

3. The Descent of the Holy Spirit
as the Gift of the Lord Jesus

B      When the time for Pentecost was fulfilled, they were all in one place together. And suddenly there came from the sky a noise like a strong driving wind, and it filled the entire house in which they were. Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim. (Acts 2:1–4) (0:37)

Z      The Lord Jesus said to St. Faustina: “Oh, how I am hurt that souls so very rarely unite with Me in Holy Communion. I am waiting for souls to come to Me, but they do not care about Me. I love them sincerely and so very much, but they do not trust Me enough. I want to lavish My graces on them, but they do not want to take them. They treat Me like an inanimate object, though My Heart is full of love and mercy. Just to let you know even a little of my pain, imagine a loving mother who loves her children so very much, but they scorn their mother’s love; think what pain she must be going through, and there is no one to comfort her. That is just a poor picture and reflection of My love.” (Faustina’s Diary, No. 1447) (0:56)

4. The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
as the Gift of the Lord Jesus

W      Mary said: “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is from age to age to those who fear him. He has shown might with his arm, dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped Israel his servant, remembering his mercy, according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” (Luke 1:46–55) (1:09)

B      St. Sister Faustina wrote in her Diary about her preparation for the Holy Communion: “Today, my soul wants to show Jesus its love in a special way. When the Lord entered my heart, I threw myself down like a rosebud at His feet. “I want the fragrance of my love to rise up continually to the feet of Your throne. You see, Jesus, my whole heart is in this rosebud for You; not only now, at this very moment, when my heart is ablaze with love, but also throughout the day I shall be showing how much I love You by being faithful to God’s grace.” (Faustina’s Diary, No. 1822) When I received Him into my heart, the veil of faith was torn down and I saw Jesus, Who said to me, (0:38)

P      “My daughter, your love is recompensing Me for the coldness of many souls.” (0:06)

B      After those words, I was left on my own again, but all day long I was living out an act of reparation. (Faustina’s Diary, No. 1816) (0:06)

5. The Crowning of the Blessed Virgin Mary
as the Gift of the Lord Jesus

Z      Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm. A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars. She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth. Then another sign appeared in the sky; it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven diadems. … Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth, to devour her child when she gave birth. She gave birth to a son, a male child, destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod. Her child was caught up to God and his throne. (Rev 11:19 – 12:5) (1:21)

D      St. Sister Faustina wrote in her Diary about her preparation for the Holy Communion: Today I am making ready for the arrival of the King. What am I, and what are You, O Lord, King of glory – immortal glory. O heart of mine, do you realise Who is coming to you today? “Yes, I do, but strangely enough, I cannot comprehend it.” Oh, but if it were only a king, but it is the King, the King of kings and the Lord of lords. All might and power trembles before Him. Today He is coming into my heart. But I hear Him coming, I am going out to meet Him and invite Him in. When He entered into the abode in my heart my soul was filled with such tremendous respect for Him that it fainted in awe, falling at His feet. Jesus gives it His hand and graciously allows it to sit next to Him. He comforts it, saying, (1:08)

W      “See, I have left the throne of Heaven to unite with you. What you see is just a tiny portion of the reality, and already your soul is swooning out of love, but how astounded your heart will be when you see Me in all of My glory! But I want to tell you that the eternal life must start already here on Earth through Holy Communion. Each Holy Communion makes you better able to abide with God for all eternity.” (Faustina’s Diary, No. 1810) (0:38)
